Opportunity at a Glance

The Government Relations Intern serves as a liaison to federal, state and local government agencies and legislatures in addition to third-party organizations. The Intern maintains positive relationships with a myriad of stakeholders to execute Adtalem’s government relations strategic plan. Reports to the Government Relations Director.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in executing government relations strategy, including organizational support with federal, state, and local government officials, government agencies, and third-party organizations.
  • Track and analyze legislation in assigned areas and report to key internal stakeholders.
  • Aide in facilitating proactive response to impactful legislation, both for internal compliance purposes and external advocacy including grassroots campaigns.
  • Synthesize and summarize research projects for key stakeholders. 
  •  Assist with basic administrative duties relating to communications with elected officials, governmental agencies, etc. 
  • Assist in coordinating follow-up including, but not limited to, thank you letters, additional feedback or information sharing, and campus tours or appointments.
  • Execute special projects and perform related duties as assigned.
  •  Hours approximately 20-25 a week.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  •  Current enrollment in a master’s program focusing on public policy, political science, law, or research and evaluation or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time experience working in government relations, government, campaigns, or corporate environment preferred.
  • High degree of diplomatic competence and discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and excellent writing, oral and presentation skills.
  • Ability to handle research assignments, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work independently.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and internet applications.
