Opportunity at a Glance

The Carrington College San Jose Campus is seeking an Academic Coach.  The Academic Coach is responsible for providing exceptional academic coaching and is accountable for attaining performance goals associated with new, continuing and resuming students while upholding academic integrity. In addition, this position is responsible for executing all elements of a proactive student outreach strategy, including face to face meetings, phone conversations, and e-mails. The Academic Coach will assist students in online and on-ground courses and may be responsible for specific content areas.

 

The work schedule required for this position is as follows:

Monday and Wednesday from 9-6pm

Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 to 9pm

Friday 9-4pm

 

Responsibilities

In this role you will:

 

  • Provide proactive outreach and academic coaching for students and helps them to persist by addressing individual learning needs.
  • Conduct orientations and seminars for new and continuing students.
  • Coach students in general content areas (basic math, writing skills) as well as assigned content areas (e.g. chemistry, intermediate algebra, anatomy).
  • Help students develop specific skills related to academic work such as time management, study skills, note taking, and test taking strategies.
  • Proactively solves problems though asking questions, listening to responses, verifying information, considering alternate conclusions and staying solution-focused.
  • Facilitate the successful transition of new students into their online courses including participation in new student orientations.
  • Respond timely, empathetically and accurately to student inquiries. Meets established service level agreements.
  • Document student interactions in appropriate college systems accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor online student attendance and academic progress and intervenes appropriately.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Education, Psychology, Science, Math, English or a medical related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of education related work experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching/tutoring required.
  • Strong PC skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of APA format, online research and basic math.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in an accurate, understandable, and succinct manner while adapting communication style to the audience.
  • Proactively solves problems though asking questions, listening to responses, verifying information, considering alternate conclusions and staying solution-focused.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
