    The VP of Finance of Adtalem Global Education's Financial Services Vertical will provide financial planning, analysis and leadership for all components of the vertical and should bring an international perspective.  This role will be a key leadership member of both the Financial Services (FS) vertical and corporate finance team who will work across the organization and functional boundaries using an understanding of the business and develop financial analyses/models and recommendations to support business planning and decision making. This role will work closely with the senior executive team to develop the vertical strategic long-range plans, annual budgets, forecasts as well as analyze historical results, identify business trends, assess viability of organic and inorganic business opportunities, develop strategic plans, measuring success to provide recommendations for future business decisions.  The role will require that the individual can help facilitate, working with functional financial leaders, structure/processes and tools for international expansion including currencies, payment types, and tax compliance.

     

    Working closely with home office resources to support financial reporting and performance needs of Adtalem, this role will indirectly manage the Directors of Finance in each of the business units constituting the vertical and provide strategic financial counsel. The VP of Finance will draw on the support of the home office Chief Accounting Officer, the heads of FP&A, Treasury and Tax to support the FS vertical. 

     

    This role reports solid-line into the Financial Services Group President and dotted line Adtalem's Chief Financial Officer.  This role will bring a deep understanding of the finance function defined to include helping the Group President develop their growth strategy, supporting execution steps of that growth strategy, providing analytical expertise on commercial negotiations, driving delivery of the annual operating plan and long-term trajectory, financial reporting, maintaining key financial planning activities, accounting, leading ad hoc financial analyses to support leader and management, order-to-cash process, and helping drive M&A integration, due diligence, negotiation and financial integration.

    Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the overall strategic direction and management of the Financial Services vertical business. Ability to operate as a true business partner of the Institution general managers and serve dual mandate of determining innovative solutions to business challenges while ensuring proper accounting controls, planning and reporting deadlines are maintained.
    • Responsible for consolidating the vertical business financial reporting of all business units.
    • Monthly review of P&L results to work with the business unit leader to achieve budget as planned and to prepare forecasts, based on current results.
    • Overall management of the organizational, monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes including, adherence to deadlines, resolution of critical issues
    • Responsible for helping support the creation and maintenance of documentation related to accounting and financial reporting issues
    • In conjunction with the CAO, Internal Audit and external auditors as required, ensure existence and effectiveness of key financial controls as well as collaboration and resolution with internal and external audits and review issues as required.
    • Responsible for meeting all financial and other compliance requirements as required.
    • Ensure availability of timely and accurate financial information for key areas within Adtalem to assist in decision making.
    • Design and implement systems in conjunction with the business systems/technology teams for financial management across the vertical.
    • Closely support our international operations, supporting field teams, business unit financial roll-up, KPIs, as well as proactively monitoring financial and tax-related matters that could impact our business, including currency fluctuation, financial regulatory changes, or markets with high inflation.
    • Establish defined road map aligned to the vertical’s strategy that identifies key support required from functional finance areas.  The leader will partner with both vertical leader and functional Finance leaders to ensure appropriate financial support/processes/tools are being provided and implemented in a timely manner.
    • Provide leadership to the Finance team across the FS business units. 
    • Work closely with the Corporate Strategy team to ensure coordinated support of our business units related to preparation of long-range strategic plan, sector trends, market research, financial KPIs, acquisition pipeline, etc.
    • Attract, recruit, retain and develop outstanding high-performing talent in the Finance team. 
    • Some travel is required, but it is not substantial (less than 20%). 
    • Completes other duties as assigned.

    Technical, Managerial and People Skills Required

     

    This individual will have functional and corporate finance experience in at least several markets as an indication of international operations understanding.  Relevant experience will include having helped in a rapidly growing business through acquisition and organic growth. The ability to interface effectively with a commercial organization is essential given the growth underway and the nature of the role.     Qualifications

    • 10 -15 years of accounting and/or finance experience required.
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required, CPA and an MBA is highly preferred.
    • Demonstrated experience and success leading Finance/Strategy in complex, matrixed organizations.
    • Demonstrated success in managing financial reporting and analysis for a growing and diversified portfolio of programs.
    • Public accounting experience is desirable.
    • Previous experience with Sarbanes Oxley and internal and external audit process reviews highly desirable.
    • Must have strong technical and automation skills.   Knowledge of US GAAP, US GAAS, and IFRS is required.
    • Strong executive presence and experience in working with C-Suite/Board level
    • Excellent people & leadership skillset. Able to influence, partner and positively impact at across all levels within the organization.
    • International work experience.
    • Must be flexible, able to contribute to a team environment, and able to handle multiple priorities.
