  • Opportunity at a Glance

    The Senior Accountant will be accountable for a broad range of accounting support to ensure the delivery of accurate and timely financial services within Adtalem. The Senior Accountant will handle many complex accounting tasks within the department and work as a team player.

     

    This position is located at our downtown Chicago office.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepares journal entries including accruals, allocations, amortizations, and other tasks for month-end, quarter-end, or year-end financial close.

    • Prepares monthly variance analysis in coordination with other departments and institutions.

    • Prepares monthly and quarterly reports to management.

    • Makes recommendations and suggestions for improvements and efficiencies in current processes by utilizing best practices.

    • Drives changes in processes through use of automation and technology including use of Blackline and Longview.

    • Responsible for the reconciliation, analysis and problem solving for some of the more complicated      processes and accounts.

    • Assists in the preparation of the monthly financial statements and various SEC filings.

    • Assists with the accounting and reporting integration of new businesses.

    • Works on special projects and handles other tasks as assigned.

    • Provides supporting documentation and analytics for external audits.

    • Manages policies to ensure accounting for all aspects within accounting and reporting comply with GAAP and SOX and ensure all policies are reviewed and updated.

    • Adheres to internal control/compliance policy procedures and has high consciousness/awareness about the Code of Ethics.

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; MBA and/or graduate degree preferred.
    • CPA is preferred.
    • Public accounting experience required.
    • Experience with SEC clients a plus.
    • Must be a team player with the ability to analyze and assess processes.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, problem solving and communication skills required.
    • Must have the ability to facilitate teamwork and cooperation at all levels within the organization and be able to work with limited supervision.
