    The scope of responsibilities for the Director of Library and Information Services of Chamberlain University spans throughout Adtalem Global Education. Internally the purview of the Director includes the Library systems and personnel management. External to the Department, the responsibilities include synergizing the library and information services capabilities with other functional areas in order to maximize the use of Library talent and materials resources across Adtalem.

     

    In this role you will lead the strategic planning, optimizing and championing of the Library and Information Services in all respects across all University units.

    Responsibilities

    User Experience and Technology

    • User service practice optimization
    • Develop best practice training plan to address the efficient use of library resources & live support operations
    • Ensure proper operations Search capabilities and site mechanics
    • Oversee the evolution of Library website design and address user accessibility issues
    • Development and further oversight of virtual library services ensuring equitable resources among online and campus based students
    • Policy creation, updating and implementation 

     Library Operations

    • Data-based provisioning and updating of library materials
    • Vendor contracting and subsequent technical integration of new materials and site tech integration
    • Collaboration with information resources committee for purchasing new items
    • Budget planning and management
    • Professional development and systems training
    • Performance goals, reviews, and skills build planning among a virtual and campus based team
    • Academic publishing plan
    • Recognition of accomplishments and milestones

    Collaboration and Integration of Library Services

     

    Outreach and Integration

    • Promote library role in institutional and student success for both online and campus students and faculty
    • Use collected statistics to show the impact of the library resources and services to relevant stakeholders
    • Relationship building with institutional leads, degree program leads, course developers to ensure alignment of library support and materials to program outcome requirements
    • Support research and special projects for faculty and students
    • Align services with the Centers for Academic Success to deliver student and faculty support in person and virtually
    • Coordinate with library stakeholders to define assessment standards for library services with a particular emphasis on student success, retention and NCLEX preparation

    Institutional Collaboration

    • Accreditation requirements alignment and oversight
    • Project coordination with University level teams
    • Collaboration with other Adtalem school libraries
    • Collaboration with Chamberlain programs, course development teams on strategic initiatives to integrate materials into course materials

    Future Planning

    • Explore innovative uses of technology in library services as a key differentiator for Chamberlain University
    • Work to leverage healthcare group synergies
    • Identify both internal and collaborative research opportunities
    • Integrate library services in course development across all programs

    Qualifications

    • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program required.
    • Second degree in a field related to Chamberlain University degrees preferred.
    • AHIP credentialing preferred
    • 5+ years of relevant medical library experience and at least 2 year of direct management experience
    • Experience managing a team of both virtual and campus based employees
    • Experience in the management of an innovative academic library
    • Experience supporting online and on-campus students
    • Using advanced technology to support online and on-campus learning
    • Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills
    • Leadership skills and ability to communicate with diverse audiences
    • PC skills in MS Office programs, LMS platforms, Springshare LibApps, OCLC, web conferencing software, electronic databases and a willingness to learn new software
