    The Adtalem Global Education Purchasing Manager manages the procurement process and ensures that the Purchasing Department serves as a procurement resource to all functions and institutions. The position also: 1) creates and administers the purchasing program across Adtalem, including creation of guidelines and resolving administrative issues; 2) develops and coordinates efforts to train and develop staff on Adtalem purchasing processes, policies, and procedures 3) reviews, approves and processes purchase requisitions and initiates purchase orders for furniture, equipment, materials, supplies, textbooks, and services for Adtalem; 4) manages, tests, implements, documents and maximizes utilization of the purchasing modules within Lawson financial ERP software system and supports upgrades and implementations; 5) manages all bid processes including assistance with development, bid issuance, receipt, analysis and recommendation for award; and 6) owns relationships with preferred suppliers at the corporate level.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement updated purchasing policies, processes, and controls by teaming with purchasing professionals and other interested parties to review, select, and deploy the appropriate system.
    • Manage functional process improvements and eliminate manual processes in order to streamline purchasing operations to improve throughput and customer service.
    • Develop, track, and report to senior leadership on projects and key performance indicators for the purchasing function.
    • Lead the efforts and involvement of all parties providing guidance from the beginning of the procurement process (requisition) to the purchase and receipt of the product or service.
    • Establish and maintain strong preferred supplier relationships, ensuring the most economical cost consistent with quality standards and specifications.
    • Develop supplier files and scorecards; manage preferred supplier business reviews to drive continuous improvement.
    • Mediate business resolutions between suppliers and internal business teams.
    • Communicate and build relationships with Adtalem purchasing functions across US and Caribbean operations.
    • Perform training, development and mentoring of other purchasing personnel as needed.
    • Recommend cost saving proposals including, alternative sourcing and vendor evaluation criteria.
    • Strategically source suppliers using an RFP process
    • Monitor and resolve invoice vs. purchase order discrepancies and purchase orders that need receipts.
    • Be a knowledge center for purchasing best practices by maintaining market intelligence and track industry trends relative to purchasing.
    • Work closely with Adtalem’s Contract and Strategic Sourcing Managers to complete projects.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or Supply Management.
    • 7 years of previous purchasing and management experience.
    • Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) preferred.
    • Project Management experience preferred.
    • Experience with ERP financial system; Lawson ERP experience a plus

    • Proficient with standard office software (MSWord, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel software.
    • Demonstrate being self-motivated, working with minimal supervision, and partnering with diverse team members and outside sources as required.
    • Demonstrated success in managing and developing staff
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently, retain a sense of urgency and meet strict timelines.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills required including the ability to communicate with all levels of management.
    • Assertive and strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with suppliers and internal business owners
    • Able to persuasively negotiate with suppliers while remaining positive and professional
    • Ability to prioritize, manage various matters concurrently, work efficiently, and meet short deadlines in a fast paced, complex cross-functional business environment
    • Ability to learn quickly, problem solve and make persuasive arguments
    • Ability to maintain high standards of customer service and satisfaction
